About Our Nursery
Babies through 3 Year Olds
Laura Street Baptist Church takes seriously the responsibility to nurture and care for babies and young children entrusted to our ministry. We are delighted to have your family grow in the knowledge and understanding of God and His love. This page is to help parents know more about what to expect as part of the church nursery. We will work together to provide the best for your child.
"Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it." Proverbs 22:6

Policies
General
-
The church nursery is only for children 3 years and younger. (Other children can accompany parents while volunteering)
-
Scheduled workers should be 18 years and older with a current cleared background check on file with the church. Workers must also have been regularly attending services and activities for at least 6 months. Approved High School students may assist adults when needed (Sunday evenings teenagers may work upon approval of nursery committee)
-
Age-graded classes will promote in June with the church family. Exceptions must be approved by nursery leaders.
-
Children should only be in the church nursery when a parent is attending a church related function.
-
Parents who have children in the nursery will be asked to be on the worker schedule if they meet necessary requirements.
Health
-
Please protect your child and others by not bringing ill children to the church nursery. Click for recommended guidelines
-
If a child develops a fever or other symptoms of illness during the service the parents will be contacted to pick them up.
-
We will not administer medicine. We will administer first aid care when needed.
-
Parents should report any allergies or chronic illnesses to the workers upon check-in.
Safety & Security
-
In case of a fire, children will be taken to the northeast parking lot or across the street. Parents should not come to the nursery, but instead pick their child up outside. A heavy duty wagon is provided in the nursery to assist the workers and deacons to evacuate all the children in a timely manner.
-
In case of a tornado emergency, all children will be taken to the basement to the middle west hallway or choir room. Parents should join their children in the basement and not come to the nursery.
-
If another emergency arises, a worker will call 911 while another worker will notify a deacon. Parents will be notified and asked to come to the nursery if necessary.
-
If an intruder enters the church, the hallway door will be locked and the two entrance doors will be locked and workers will keep children safe in the nursery until they get an all-clear from the church protection team. Parents will then be notified to pick up children.
Ways to Prepare for Nursery
-
Label everything you bring. (Diaper bags, cups, bottles, pacifiers, clothing, etc.)
-
Tell a worker if there are specific powders, ointments, and wipes you have brought to be used.
-
Pack an extra change of clothes and several extra diapers.
-
Feed your child before arriving. Tell the worker if you are providing an extra bottle for a baby.
-
Limit personal items that child brings from home and make sure everything is labeled.
-
Candy and gum should be enjoyed outside of the church nursery.
-
Check on your child as you want. We do recommend to do that discreetly to avoid extra tears and sadness. A worker will contact you if you are needed.
-
Provide contact and other pertinent information as you check in your child. Only the adults that you specify will be allowed to pick up your child.
-
Pick up your child in a timely manner to show respect and care to the workers caring for your child.
Check-In
-
Use the ipad kiosk to enter information. Include parent's names, cell phone numbers, other necessary notes.
-
Each visit, use the kiosk to get a new name tag to put on your child's back.
-
Include in the "notes" section any necessary information the workers need, including people who can pick up your child.
-
Children will be checked out of the nursery to one of the adults listed on the child's tag.
